Where to Buy

If you're ready to invest in your own gear, these retailers offer a wide selection and expert advice:

  • REI Co-op: Excellent for their "Satisfaction Guarantee" and knowledgeable staff who can help with fitting. Their "How to Choose Snowshoes" guide offers a very thorough explanation of the types of snowshoes out there.

  • Backcountry.com: Great for browsing high-end technical brands like MSR and Atlas.

  • Local Outdoor Outlets: Limited stock available at our local Dicks Sporting Goods and Dunham Sports.

  • Secondhand Options: Look at Play it Again Sports, Facebook Marketplace, or Geartrade. Snowshoes are durable, so buying used is a great way to save money.

Rental Tips for Members

  1. Bring your boots: When renting, bring the waterproof boots you plan to hike in to ensure the bindings fit correctly. Your license is also required to rent equipment.

  2. Ask about poles: Using trekking poles with snow baskets makes a huge difference in balance. Most rental shops include them for a small extra fee.
